  4.     DIED. John A. McCone, 89, former director of the Central
  5. Intelligence Agency and ex-chairman of the Atomic Energy
  6. Commission; in Pebble Beach, Calif. In 1961 President Kennedy
  7. selected McCone as head of the CIA to succeed Allen Dulles
  8. after the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba. McCone provided vital
  9. information to the President during the 1962 Cuban missile
  10. crisis.
